Power outages are affecting hundreds of residents across parts of Omakau and Letts Gully this morning.

Aurora Energy has noted on its website there were 15 customers affected in Omakau from about 7.15am, including those on Huddleston, Lauder, McNulty, Racecourse and Stafford roads.

It was not known what the cause was, but crews were investigating. It was not known when power was likely to return.

Power also went out at about 8am across parts of Letts Gully, which affected 1188 customers, across dozens of streets and roads, including Springvale, Brassknocker, Ferris, Galloway and Golden roads, along with Ngapara, Pollock and Success streets, and many others.

Crews are also still investigating the cause and according to the Aurora Energy website, less than five customers were still without power across the Letts Gully area.

Central was under a strong wind watch this morning, from 9am to 11am, with some areas also receiving heavy showers at times.

Showers are expected to return tonight, while strong northwesterlies will ease this evening.
