A chilly Good Friday makes way for warmer days in Central, giving locals and visitors a chance to hold an outside egg hunt.

The extended MetService forecast for Central is for highs in the low 20s for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris said it would be prime conditions for those attending Warbirds of Wānaka.

"While the Easter weekend for the South Island will see plenty of fine, dry weather - for the North Island it will be a wetter, windier story."

The majority of the South Island, including Central is in for a relatively settled bout of weather across the long weekend.

A road snowfall warning was in place for the Crown Range road until 2am today (Friday) with up to one centimetre of snow to accumulate near the summit.
